Year 11 students will participate in a Leadership Day, partaking in theory and practical sessions, with the focus of the day being Teamwork – Know Your Role, Play Your Role.
Over the past year, the Year 11 cohort has undertaken the Leadership programme. Students worked with their House Head each week and explored topics that included Knowing Thyself, Values and Habits and the idea of a Paradigm Shift. This term, the course culminates with students looking at Team Work and the roles that can be played within these teams.
At each stage of the course, students are engaged in both theoretical and practical aspects of developing their leadership skills. This has involved them working in their House groups during activities such as International Cuisine Day as well as delivering a speech to their group which expresses their values.
The Leadership programme is a special opportunity provided to all students who attend Scotch College. The School values the notion that there are different types of leadership which are applicable in different situations. Connected to this is the belief that every individual can demonstrate leadership and we look for students to contribute in different areas of school life, whether this is within their House and mentor group, in the classroom or across the range of co-curricular activities.
The Leadership Day provides a further opportunity for students to reflect on their leadership skills and offers the chance for them to extend their understanding of these skills. The sessions will include the following topics:
- A keynote speaker, focusing on how to develop a strong team and what we value and admire in other people.
- Dealing with conflict.
- An exploration of character strengths.
- Storytelling, focusing on leadership experiences.
This event complements the Leadership course and offer the students another avenue through which to explore the related skill set.
