Tue 18 Mar – Numeracy

Students are to bring:

Parents are reminded that NAPLAN is a snapshot assessment of where students are currently at. The best preparation is a good night’s sleep. You can help your son prepare for NAPLAN by reassuring him that the tests are just one part of his school programme and he should simply try to do his best. There will be catch up sessions made available at earliest convenience.

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) has a requirement for students to demonstrate a minimum level of Literacy and Numeracy to achieve the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). The Year 9 NAPLAN tests are the first opportunity for students to demonstrate the standard. Spelling and Grammar and Punctuation are not included; the Literacy and Numeracy requirements are for Reading, Writing and Numeracy. If your son achieves Band 8 or higher in any of those three components he will have ‘pre-qualified’ and will need to do no further assessments in that area. Results from NAPLAN will be released electronically towards the end of Autumn Term.

The second opportunity for a student to demonstrate the required level of Literacy and Numeracy is in the first round of the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) which will be held later in the year.
