WADL are hosting a development weekend on Sat 2 and Sun 3 March at Shenton College.

Students registered for the WADL Inter-School Debating Competition are invited to attend one day over the Development Weekend, which will run from 9:30am - 3:30pm. Students will be divided into novices and juniors/seniors, where they will engage in workshops about the basics of debating, the three Ms (Matter/Manner/Method), rebuttal, how to approach impromptu debates, and strategies to stand out against their opposition. Juniors and seniors will also learn about using POIs strategically.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are strongly advised to attend if they are available, as this season will see them experience their first impromptu debates. Any inexperienced debaters are also strongly advised to attend.

Students may wear casual clothing and need to bring morning tea and lunch, a water bottle, as well as pens and paper to take notes with and participate in activities. Please do not bring laptops or iPads. Students will remain in the Shenton facilities throughout the day, and parents and teachers are not required to stay.
